Why Ninole Properties Choose Water Catchment

Ninole’s location on the northeast shore of the Big Island receives generous rainfall during the rainy season part of the year. This abundant rainfall during wet periods, combined with limited county water infrastructure in rural areas, makes rainwater catchment both practical and cost-effective for local homeowners. Many properties utilize well water for water supply on property for both domestic purposes. Sufficient well water storage tanks bring an important element of storage capacity when wells break down or during drought conditions where wells become overdrawn and do not produce.

Hamakua Coast Environmental Benefits

  • Annual rainfall: 80+ inches helps to fill larger tanks for drought storage
  • Consistent trade wind moisture for reliable collection during rainy season
  • Rich volcanic soil provides natural filtration benefits
  • Minimal drought risk compared to leeward communities during normal years

Advanced Water Storage for Ninole Homes

Custom Tank Solutions for Coastal Conditions

Our Ninole water storage systems feature corrosion-resistant Pioneer Tanks designed to withstand the humid coastal environment. These high-quality tanks resist the salt air and moisture that can damage standard storage systems along the Hamakua Coast.

Optimal Tank Sizing for Ninole Properties For All Seasons & Conditions

Most Ninole properties benefit from 15,000 to 65,000-gallon storage capacity, considering:

  • Roof catchment area (typically 1,200-2,500 sq ft)
  • Household size and water usage patterns
  • Seasonal rainfall variations on the Hamakua Coast
  • Property elevation and drainage considerations
  • Well water storage
  • Drought condition additional storage

Due to current drought conditions our recommendation is to oversize your tank by 50% to 100% to maintain larger storage capacities for the dry season and heightened drought conditions. We keep tanks in stock from 5,000 gallons up to 65,000 gallons ready and available for installation.

FAQ Section

How much rainfall does Ninole receive for water catchment systems past and CURRENT conditions? In the rainy season Ninole averages 80+ inches of rainfall annually, making it one of the reliable areas on the Big Island for rainwater collection during wet periods. The community’s location on the windward Hamakua Coast ensures consistent water harvesting during rainy months. However, the Hamakua coast along with other parts of the big island are currently experiencing drought conditions that are predicted to persist and potentially worsen in the coming months. This has significant implications for water resources and wildfire risk in the area.

What size water catchment tank works best for Ninole properties? Most Ninole homes benefit from 15,000 to 65,000-gallon tanks, depending on roof size and household needs. A typical 1,500 square foot roof can collect substantial water annually in Ninole’s climate during rainy seasons, making larger storage capacity worthwhile. Due to current drought conditions our recommendation is to oversize your tank by 50% to 100% to maintain larger storage capacities for the dry season and heightened drought conditions.

Can Pacific Blue Catchment handle permits for Ninole installations? Absolutely. We manage all necessary Hawaii County permits and inspections for Ninole water catchment installations, ensuring compliance with local building codes and environmental regulations.

What makes Pioneer Tanks better for Ninole’s coastal environment? Pioneer Tanks offer superior corrosion resistance against salt air and humidity common along the Hamakua Coast. Their reinforced construction and protective coatings provide decades of reliable service in Ninole’s tropical conditions. Our superior Zincalume Steel and low domed roof resists high winds and salty air for over 30 years and our industry leading warranty backs it up for 20 of those years.

I have been with pacific blue since moving into my house 12 yrs ago. I have had three memorable water emergencies that because of Murphy’s Law happened on the weekends or Friday. Corey/his crew were there every time I needed them. Always called back within an hour, always able to help.
I had the honor of meeting Jay on my last water situation, and not only did he fix the problem, he improved my set up and showed me step by step how to fix the problem myself if I was inclined to do so. Great company, great people.
Thanks you guys

They provided a one stop package. Other vendors offered a tank but not install. They arranged for water delivery, delivered and installed the tank and roof. As on option, they also provided a hydrant hook up for water delivery haulers. Very pleased with the finished product.
