Hakalau Water Storage Solutions

Hakalau Rainwater Collection Systems

Hakalau’s position on the windward Hamakua Coast receives generous rainfall throughout the year although recent conditions have seen the area go into fairly severe drought conditions. The town’s agricultural roots and limited county water infrastructure in rural areas make rainwater catchment both practical and economical for local homeowners and small farms. Our comprehensive Hakalau rainwater collection systems are specifically designed to handle the area’s normally abundant precipitation while filtering out organic matter from the lush tropical environment. Our tank systems are fully enclosed to prevent evaporation during the heavy drought conditions Hakalau is currently experiencing and our larger tank sizes help you store water to last through the dry season.

Pioneer Tank Systems for Hakalau

The small community of Hakalau, home to approximately 650 residents, sits where the Hakalau Stream flows from Mauna Kea’s slopes to the Pacific Ocean. This historic town, which thrived as a sugar plantation until the 1970s, now relies on diverse small farms growing tropical fruits, coffee, flowers, and taro. Many properties benefit from professional Hakalau water storage systems that harness the area’s consistent rainfall during the rainy season while increasingly installing larger storage systems for longevity through drought conditions. Our modern design tanks come with a low attractive roof and attractive V-lock design on the side walls with high quality color bonding options for your tank to blend into the surroundings and preserve the natural beauty of Hakalau properties. No more soft covers blowing off or ripping in the high Coastal winds and no need to choose an industrial grain bin style tank for enclosed options now that our Pioneer tanks are available and in stock on Island giving everybody in these beautiful areas a much more attractive wow much longer lasting tank options! Our superior Zincalume Steel and low domed roof resists high winds and salty air for over 30 years and our industry leading warranty backs it up for 20 of those years.

Why Hakalau Residents Choose Water Catchment

Hakalau’s position on the windward Hamakua Coast receives generous rainfall during the rainy season part of the year. The town’s agricultural roots and limited county water infrastructure in rural areas make rainwater catchment both practical and economical for local homeowners and small farms. Many properties utilize well water for water supply on property for both domestic and irrigation purposes. Sufficient well water storage tanks bring an important element of storage capacity when Wells break down or during drought conditions where wells become overdrawn and do not produce.

Hamakua Coast Environmental Benefits

  • Annual rainfall: 100+ inches helps to fill larger tanks for drought storage
  • Consistent trade wind moisture for reliable collection

FAQ Section

How much rainfall does Hakalau receive for effective water catchment past and CURRENT conditions.

In the rainy season Hakalau receives over 100 inches of rainfall annually, making it one of the most reliable areas on the Big Island for rainwater harvesting. The community’s windward Hamakua Coast location ensures consistent water collection throughout most months of the year. However, the Hamakua coast along with other parts of the big island are currently experiencing drought conditions that are predicted to persist and potentially worsen in the coming months. This has significant implications for agriculture water resources and Wildfire risk in the area.

What size water storage tank works best for Hakalau agricultural properties?

Most Hakalau properties, especially those with small farms, benefit from 15,000 to 65,000-gallon storage systems. Agricultural operations may require larger capacity depending on crop irrigation needs and seasonal growing patterns common in the area. Due to current drought conditions our recommendation is to oversize your tank by 50% to 100% to maintain larger storage capacities for the dry season and heightened drought conditions. We keep tanks in stock from 5,000 gallons up to 65,000 gallons ready and available for installation.

Do Hakalau water catchment systems require special maintenance for agricultural use?

Yes, agricultural properties on the Hamakua Coast require more frequent maintenance due to increased organic debris from farming activities. We recommend monthly gutter cleaning during peak growing seasons and specialized filtration for irrigation water quality.

Can Pacific Blue Catchment install systems for small farms in Hakalau?

Absolutely. We specialize in designing water catchment systems for Hakalau’s diverse agricultural community, including tropical fruit farms, coffee growers, and flower operations that require reliable water storage for irrigation and processing needs. We offer a full line of high quality solar pumping systems for daytime pumping as well as battery augmented nighttime systems and a full line of AC pump systems as well.

What makes Pioneer Tanks ideal for Hakalau?

Pioneer Tanks offer superior durability in Hakalau’s volcanic soil conditions and humid coastal environment. Their corrosion-resistant construction withstands the area’s high rainfall and provides decades of reliable service for both residential and agricultural applications. Our tanks have standard stainless steel mesh pretank filters which reduce organic material entering the tank which also reduces the need for maintenance.

I have been with pacific blue since moving into my house 12 yrs ago. I have had three memorable water emergencies that because of Murphy’s Law happened on the weekends or Friday. Corey/his crew were there every time I needed them. Always called back within an hour, always able to help.
I had the honor of meeting Jay on my last water situation, and not only did he fix the problem, he improved my set up and showed me step by step how to fix the problem myself if I was inclined to do so. Great company, great people.
Thanks you guys

They provided a one stop package. Other vendors offered a tank but not install. They arranged for water delivery, delivered and installed the tank and roof. As on option, they also provided a hydrant hook up for water delivery haulers. Very pleased with the finished product.
